NEW YORK — Citymeals-on-Wheels staff and volunteers are taking dozens of normally homebound New Yorkers out for a restaurant meal.

Citymeals also has been delivering more than 5,000 Thanksgiving Day meals to frail, elderly residents.

And it delivered more than 12,000 meals right before the holiday.

Citymeals works with community-based meal centers to deliver food to 18,000 people.

More than 60 percent of the recipients are over 80 years old. Twenty-three percent are over 90. And a few are 100 or older.

All of them suffer from some form of physical or mental disability and many are at risk for malnutrition.
