Teen shot at intersection in Newark area; witnesses report he fled vehicle before collapsing


NEWARK, Delaware — Police say a 16-year-old boy was wounded by gunfire at an intersection in the Newark area.

New Castle County police say officers got a call about a shooting early Friday evening and found the boy lying on the shoulder of the roadway. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police did not provide information about his condition.

Police say according to witnesses, the victim emerged from a vehicle that pulled over along the side of the road. The teen fled the vehicle but collapsed about 20 yards away. The vehicle left the scene.

Police have not identified any suspects or detailed a possible motive.
