WILLISTON, North Dakota — Dickinson's Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport is getting an $880,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The announcement Thursday by U.S. Sens. John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp comes on the heels of a $1 million grant announced earlier by the Department of Transportation. The money will be used to expand the airport's apron and runway.

North Dakota's senators hosted Federal Aviation Administrator Michael Huerta in North Dakota in a push to get more funding for airports in the state, where the increasing population has overtaxed many of the facilities.

North Dakota airports have secured more than $50 million in federal funds since April.
