Helen Foster Huffman, 86, of Greenwood, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011.

The eldest of three children, she was born June 11, 1925, in Putnam County, to Edward Earl Foster and Zella (Browning) Foster.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecil N. Huffman Jr.; her brother, Warren Foster; and her sister, Virginia Foster.

Helen worked for several employers, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Indiana Highway Department. She received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Indiana Central College and Butler University. She spent the remainder of her career as a second-grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School where she taught for 27 years, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of the Community Church of Greenwood, Daughters of the American Revolution, Indiana State Teachers Association, Sewing Guild, and the Red Hat Society.

Helen is survived by her only son, Lance (Cathy) Lewis; three grandchildren, Jason (Erin) Lewis, Aaron (Tabitha) Lewis and Angela Lewis; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Reid and baby girl Lewis.

The Rev. Jack Haun will conduct a funeral service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Calling will be from 3 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. A private interment will take place later at Maple Grove Cemetery in Plainfield.
