Richard E. Helms
Richard E. Helms, 83, of Holiday, Florida, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, in the comfort of The Hospice Home after a brief illness.
He was born April 12, 1931, in Franklin, the son of Benjamin and Laura (Mobley) Helm. He lived in Whiteland before moving to Florida.
Richard served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Arvin Industries in Franklin.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Clements) Helms of Holiday, Florida; five children, Rick (Cindy) Helms of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Deborah (Helms) (Bobby) Blake of Sarasota, Florida, Cindy (Helms) (Gerry) Clement of North Andover, Massachusetts, Greg Wheeler of St. Joseph, Illinois, and Sherry (Wheeler) (Dan) Penoff of Valrico, Florida; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Helm and Laura White; a son, Steve Helms; a brother, Alonzo Helm; and two sisters, Margaret (Helm) Hardin and Evelyn (Helms) Basil.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 6 at Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home, 4910 Bartelt Road in Holiday, Florida.
