Robert Graham ‘Bob’ Smith

Robert Graham “Bob” Smith passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014. He was a resident of Franklin.

Bob was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Whiteland, to Robert and Frances (Graham) Smith.

He was raised in Franklin, attended Franklin High School and was a 1950 graduate of Franklin College. Bob was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a 60-plus year member of the Franklin Rotary Club and a member of the board of trustees of Franklin College.

Bob retired as president of Mutual Building and Loan (now Mutual Savings Bank) in Franklin.

He was a lifelong Presbyterian. Bob and his wife, Rosejane, spent many years in Fort Myers, Florida, where they were members of Chapel by the Sea church.

He married the former Rosejane Pruitt on Aug. 6, 1950.

In addition to his wife, survivors include their children, Carol McCallum (Don Hayes), Connie Smith (Harold Bledsoe) and Robert (Nancy) Smith II; grandchildren, Sarah McCallum (Nate Byrne) and Daniel Olson; and great-grandson, Liam McCallum Byrne. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Lower; brother-in-law, Pence Pruitt; sisters-in-law, Ellie Pruitt (Harold Hoeferkamp) and Connie Pruitt (the late Jack Shafer); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; infant daughter, Beverly Rose; and grandson, Matthew McCallum.

A celebration of life memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Adams Drive, Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St.

(U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. A private inurnment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions be made in Bob’s memory to Grace United Methodist Church, Children’s Ministries, 1300 E. Adams Drive, Franklin, IN 46131; and/or to Franklin College, Office of Development, in memory of Robert G. Smith, 101 Branigin Blvd., Franklin, IN 46131.
