Mary Mildred Portteus
Mary Mildred (Garriott) Portteus, age 93, passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.
Mary was born Aug. 14, 1921, to the late Harvey Garriott and Hattie (Richey) Garriott. She was married to her beloved late husband, Paul Portteus for 41 years. She retired in 1981 from shopping service at L.S. Ayres, where she worked for 30 years. She had been a member of Eastern Star and the Methodist Church.
She was an avid gardener and loved working in the yard. She had lived in the Indianapolis area and was currently a resident of the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin.
Mary was the beloved mother of Joan Cole of Greenwood, who survives her.
She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Barbara) Garriott and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, David Portteus; son-in-law Mark Cole; sister, Betty LaFara; brother, Bob Garriott; dear friend, Harry Lahne; and her little dog Snoopy.
We wish to thank Gentiva Hospice and the care givers at Franklin United Methodist Community for their care of Mary.
The family is being served by Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery immediately following the service.
