Carrie J. Hammond
Carrie J. (Miller) Hammond, 41, was granted her angel wings on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, following a two-year, courageous battle with glioblastoma. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Carrie had touched in some small way throughout her short, yet very memorable life. She was a resident of Nashville.
She was born on May 5, 1973, in Columbus to her parents, Terry R. Miller and Susan K. (Carroll) Flesher.
Carrie was a 1991 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree in business from Indiana Business College in Columbus.
She married Kenneth H. “Kenny” Hammond on Dec. 6, 1996, at Nashville Christian Church.
Carrie worked as a front desk clerk at the Abe Martin Lodge in Nashville from 2011 to 2012. Prior to that, she worked as a secretary at the Center for Women and Children in the Bloomington Hospital from 1996 to 2010.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Kenny; mother, Susan K. (Don) Flesher of Nashville; father, Terry R. Miller of Bean Blossom; children, Karlie and Caleb Hammond, both of Nashville; and a sister, Trina L. (Donald) Asher of Nashville.
She will be remembered by her paternal grandmother, Marie Miller of Franklin; maternal grandfather, Ross (Mary) Carroll of North Vernon; aunts, Cathy Bright, Anna “Sis” Miller and Betty Bay, all of Franklin; uncle, Ty Carroll of Nashville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, June Carroll; paternal grandfather, James Miller; and an uncle, James Miller II.
Throughout Carrie’s battle, she always made her children her top priority. Carrie never missed Karlie’s cheerleading competitions and Caleb’s soccer matches plus spending time spoiling her nieces and nephews.
Carrie enjoyed working in her flower gardens, feeding the birds, taking photographs and vacationing at the beach.
The Rev. Barb Wood will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.
Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Carrie to the Karlie and Caleb “Education Fund” in care of Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 308, Morgantown, IN 46160.
