Helen F. Porter, 89, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014.
Born Dec. 20, 1924, in Birdseye, she was the daughter of the late Homer R. and Gladys (Newton) Dewitt. She was a graduate of Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis. On May 30, 1946, she married Joseph E. Porter in Indianapolis; and he preceded her in death in 2012.
Helen was an active member of Smith Valley United Methodist Church and belonged to the White River Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She worked as a clerk for American States Insurance Co., retiring in 1980.
She is survived by two daughters, Pricilla Porter and Wanda Jean Vanderpool; two sisters, Norma Lee Volz and Francie Villanti; two brothers, Harold Dewitt and Darwin Dewitt; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
