Paul E. Tinkle
Paul E. Tinkle, 72, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his residence after a three-year battle with prostate cancer.
Paul was born on Sept. 7, 1941, in Beech Grove to H. Samuel and Arvetta L. (Kinnick) Tinkle.
He married Francis (Smithey) Tinkle on June 29, 1960, by the justice of the peace in Johnson County, and on their 50th wedding anniversary they celebrated a renewal of their wedding vows given by their children.
He received his high school diploma from Center Grove High School in 1959.
Paul worked for Mac Fehsenfeld as the manager of thoroughbred racing operations for 38 years in Brownsburg.
Paul was a member of the board of directors for the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (ITOBA) since 2004. Paul was an active member of the Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Development Advisory Committee since Jan. 1, 2011. He took high honor when he was personally asked to serve on the committee by then-Gov. Mitch Daniels.
Paul was well-respected within the horse racing community. He never met a stranger, was kindhearted and would always go out of his way to help someone even if they didn’t ask. He and his wife also have had a residence in Ocala, Florida, since January 2011.
Survivors include his wife, Francis (Smithey) Tinkle of Lebanon; his sons, Dwayne Tinkle (Sally) of Lebanon, Todd Tinkle (Lisa) of Mooresville and Thomas Tinkle (Marcie) of Rockville; his daughters, Marcia Freeman (Jerry) of Lebanon, Angela Klooz (Fritz) of Avon and Denise Crickmore (James) of Greenwood; his father, H. Samuel Tinkle and stepmother, Mary Tinkle of Greenwood. He is also survived by 14 siblings, Phil Tinkle (Elaine), Priscilla Dashiell (Bob, deceased), Peggy Harold (Bob) and Pam Harold (Dave), all of Greenwood, Pete Tinkle (Sandy, deceased) of Mooresville, Pat Tinkle (Wilma) and Portia Hughes (Larry), both of Bargersville, Perry Tinkle (Susie) of Greenwood, Sam Tinkle Jr. (Nancy) of Bargersville, Trish Jones (Bruce) of Whiteland, Paulette Lott (Jack) of Greenwood, Preston Tinkle and Pravin Tinkle (Julie), both of Franklin, and Presley Tinkle (Julia) of Whiteland. Paul had 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Arvetta L. (Kinnick) Tinkle; and a sister, Penny Tinkle.
A service will be conducted at 5 p.m. today at Swartz Family
Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service today at the mortuary. A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday at Indiana Grand Racing, 4300 N. Michigan Road in Shelbyville, with a time to be determined at a later date.
