William C. Blankenship
William C. Blankenship, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
Bill was born April 24, 1928, in Indianapolis to George and Lesta (Nelson) Blankenship.
He was a beloved husband of 65 years to his wife, Thelma (Todd) Blankenship.
Other survivors include two sons, Gary (Teri) and Steve (Jenny) Blankenship; three daughters, Carolyn (Barry) Kay, Nancy Ewing and Cindy (Gary) Ernst; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in passing by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Bill was known for his smile and love of farming, which he did for more than 75 years. He was also chairman of the Marion County Farm Bureau Co-op for 35 years.
He loved being with family and friends, being outdoors, playing golf, fishing and wintering at Sanibel Island, Florida.
Bill was a charter member of Southport Christian Church. He was also a member of Southport Masonic Lodge 270, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Royal Order of Jesters and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 7602 Madison Ave., Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the donor’s favorite charity, in care of the funeral home.
