Paul J. Volk
Paul J. Volk, 74, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis.
He was born June 27, 1939, in Indianapolis to Vincent George Volk and Mary (Wesseler) Volk. He married Helen Marie (Werner) Volk on Dec. 28, 1963, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis; and she survives.
He attended Holy Cross Catholic School and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Butler University. He was a principal for Indianapolis Public Schools for more than 40 years at several schools, including schools 26, 15, 14 and 112.
Mr. Volk was an active member of SS. Francis and Clare Catholic Church in the Center Grove area, where he was an usher, involved in the Harvest Food Pantry, member of DADS club and the Joy Club, and actively involved in the school ministry. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Marie (Werner) Volk of Greenwood; children, Anne Lockard (Vince) of Beech Grove, Cathy Marshall (Ron) of Indianapolis, and Sharon Sellers and Brian Volk (Stephanie), both of Greenwood; grandchildren, Nick, Laura and Rachel Marshall, Matt and Leigh Hoagland, Ethan, Andrew and Kyle Lockard, Gabrielle and Isabella Sellers, and Alex, Owen and Lauren Volk; and sisters, Lucille Frazee of Brownsburg and Margaret McAndrews of Indianapolis.
The Rev. Vincent P. Lampert will conduct a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Saturday at SS. Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to SS. Francis and Clare Catholic Church Harvest Food Pantry or the SS. Francis and Clare School Ministry at 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, IN 46143.
Swartz Family Church and Chapel-Funeral and Cremation Services in Greenwood is handling arrangements.
