William Ward Henry
William Ward Henry passed away May 11, 2014. He was 87. He was a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida.
Born to Artie and Gertrude Henry on April 24, 1927, he lived most of his life in Whiteland.
Bill worked the family farm until he was employed by Eli Lilly and Co. in 1959. He worked in the parasitology department of the animal science division. He started out as an animal caretaker, but when he retired in 1990 he was a senior technical associate. Bill ran his own lab and had three or four technicians working for him.
His friends and co-workers said “he was highly regarded and he was one of the guys you would go to when you needed someone to help solve a problem.”
He was an avid sailor, captaining his own sailboat on Lake Monroe and also captaining sailboats in the British Virgin Islands.
He married Pauline Scharfe on June 3, 1951.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; children, Sharon (Michael) Hall of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, and Port Charlotte, Florida, Brian (Mary) Henry of Silver Bay, Minnesota, Daryl (Lynn) Henry of North Port, Florida, and Donna (Tim) Rayl of Prescott, Arizona; six grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Services will be held at a later time.
