William Edward ‘Ed’ Tirey
William Edward “Ed” Tirey, 90, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. He was a resident there for 28 years.
He was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Indianapolis, to Russell Lamar and Grace Gertrude (Guthrie) Tirey.
He married Kathleen Thompson on June 14, 1944. She preceded him in passing March 10, 2008.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth Tirey (Vicki) of Brownsburg; his daughter, Judith Coffing (Dale) of Macy; grandchildren, Brent Coffing, Sean Garrison, Amy Freeman, Chad Garrison, Angela Cucullo and Matthew Tirey; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in passing by his wife, Kathleen.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Korean War. He retired from the Indiana Air Guard after 34 years of service.
He retired from the Brazil, Indiana, housing authority after seven years of service.
Ed was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107 F&AM.
The Revs. Cleon Wright and Charles Stanley will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A committal service with military rites will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clearview Cemetery in Brazil.
