Francis E. Gross, 98, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, with his loving family at his side.
He was born May 5, 1916, in Logansport to Franklin E. and Mary Emma (Hubbert) Gross. He graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute with the class of 1934. Francis was a World War II Army veteran and a chief crew dispatcher for many railroad companies. He was a Cub master for Cub Pack 210 and assistant troop leader for Boy Scouts of America Troop 265.
Francis was on the board of directors for Camp Allendale as treasurer and was a member of Christian Men’s Fellowship.
He married the former Pearl Evelyn McGaughy on April 20, 1947; and she survives him, along with his daughter, Patricia (Rex) Foster; grandchildren, Travis Aaron Foster and Michael Trent (Jennifer Phillips) Foster; and great-grandchild, Hunter Petro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim Gross; and two sisters, Mary C. Clark and Marie Coric.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
