Thomas A. Barker
Thomas A. Barker, 90, of Richmond, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at The Waters of Scottsburg in Scottsburg.
Born March 9, 1924, in Richmond, to Frank H. and Bessie C. White Barker, he lived most of his life in New Westville, Ohio.
Thomas was a 1943 graduate of Whitewater High School. He retired as a factory worker at Henny Penny Co. in 1991 after 10 years.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from July 20, 1943, to April 4, 1946, during World War II. While serving, he was an engine mechanic on the P-5 aircraft. He was stationed in California, Florida and England.
He was a member of Middleboro United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. For the last year, he attended Edinburgh United Methodist Church in Edinburgh.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherri (Greg) Sweet of Shelbyville; a son, Steve (Robin) Barker of Peachtree City, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Adam, Jonathan and Abigail Sweet, and Spencer and Courtney Barker; a brother, Charles Barker; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Hollingsworth Barker; his parents; and two brothers, Eugene and Howard Barker.
Funeral service for Thomas Arthur Barker will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, with the Rev. Sean Michael Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Goshen Cemetery near Middleboro, with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
