James William Brown
James William “Bill” Brown, 89, of Sunbury, Ohio, and formerly of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
The son of George W. and Burrilla Davidson Brown, Bill was born July 22, 1924, in Bedford. A U.S. Army veteran, Bill served during World War II.
For 40 years, he owned and operated Brown’s Mower Sales and Service in Smith Valley. He also worked as a foreman for Carlisle Corp. He was a member of Smith Valley Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5864, Greenwood, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Bill is survived by his wife, Bernice Wheeler Brown of Sunbury; a son, Kevin L. (Kelly) Brown of Sunbury; a daughter, Pamela K. (Reese) Cartwright of Post Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Kendell L. Brown; two brothers, Buster and Bob; and three sisters, Margaret, Helen and Pauline.
The Rev. Bob Newlin will conduct a funeral service at noon Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
