Robert Lee Shoup
Robert Lee Shoup, 72, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Edinburgh.
He was born April 24, 1941, in Buchanan, Mich. His mother was Della Mae (Heckathorn) Shoup Goldsmith. His stepfather was William H. Goldsmith.
He married Joann Stevens of Shelbyville on Nov. 14, 1964. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Della A. Shoup of Indianapolis and Charles W. Shoup (Mandy) of Trafalgar; brothers, Dwight “Pete” Shoup (Barbara) of Cypress, Texas, Bill Goldsmith (Robin) of Crocker, Mo., and Larry Goldsmith (Paula) of Plano, Texas; four granddaughters, Mindy, Chelsea, Josie and Aubrey Shoup; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tim Goldsmith.
He was a graduate of Edinburgh High School, class of 1960.
Robert served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He was employed by Cummins Engine Co. for 33 years, retiring Feb. 1, 1996.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 547 F&AM in Hartsville, Murat Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. in Indianapolis, Johnson County Shrine Club, Moose Lodge No. 398 in Columbus, Columbus Eagles Lodge No. 741 and American Legion Post No. 252 in Greenwood.
Robert enjoyed fishing, camping and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
The Rev. Walter Howard will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North), Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
