97.5, passed away Nov. 29, 2013, at her home in Plantation, Fla.
Liz was born on April, 21, 1916, in Scottsburg to Leland and Flora Hougland. She was a resident of Franklin for the majority of her life. Attending both Indiana University and Franklin College, she received her degree from Franklin College in 1939. She was married to Dr. Joseph Ferrara in 1938.
She was very active in the community and was a member of many organizations; PEO, Tri Kappa, Women’s Study Club and the Alexander Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a
75-year member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. In 1928, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin and served as a deacon later on.
She was active in the literacy program at the Johnson County Library and taught adults to read at the library and also at Camp Atterbury.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane, Susan and Libby; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Flora Hougland and her two brothers, William and Herman.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 201 Jefferson St., Franklin. There will be a celebration of her life from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the home of Jenny Auger, 1120 Adams Drive, Franklin, for those that would like to visit with the family.
