Elberta “Jean” Utterback, 93, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Christina House in Franklin.

She was born on July 29, 1920, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, to Blaze and Freda (Davis) Robertson. She married Bennett Utterback in 1938. He preceded her in passing in 1983.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean (Don) Combs-Sedam of Franklin and Janice (Fred) Bullman of Bargersville; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in passing by her siblings, Betty Robertson; Grace (Robertson) Moore and Bob Robertson.

Jean was a graduate of Union High School and attended Purdue University.

Jean worked as a store clerk with Smith Bros. in Providence. She later was employed by the Indiana State Police and worked in Johnson County government. She retired from the Indiana Masonic Home where she worked as a houseparent, a receptionist and in residential services.

Jean was a member of the Providence Christian Church. She was a Past Matron of the Providence Chapter No. 584, Order of Eastern Star. Jean had received her 75-year pin from the Eastern Star. She was a past president

of the Professional Business Women’s Association and a member of the Johnson County Historical Society.

The Revs. Steve Sorensen and Roger Gifford will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
