Mary Lynn Kasting
Mary Lynn Kasting, 87, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Franklin.
She had been a resident of Franklin since 1948.
She was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Seymour, to Thomas Volney Carter and Helen Steele (Blevins) Carter.
She married Wilfred E. “Willie” Kasting on April 17, 1948, in Seymour. He preceded her in passing Oct. 22, 1994.
Survivors include one daughter, Nickala “Nicki” Kasting of Franklin; a son, Thomas (Phyllis) Kasting of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Kyle (Kelsey) Kasting and Kim (Josh) Minton, and two great-grandchildren, Avery Minton and Ellie Minton, all of Franklin. Other survivors include two sisters, Pat Ives of Rockford, Ill., and Tommy Jo Shupe of South Whitley; a stepmother, Florence Carter of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Willie; sister, Betty Abel; brothers-in-law, Frank, Dennis, G. Roland, John and Lynn Kasting, and Dewey Abel; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Spivey Anthony.
She graduated from Shields High School in Seymour and attended Purdue University.
She served eight years as Johnson County recorder and retired from Johnson County government.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin and Johnson County Extension Homemakers and was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was an avid Colts, Pacers and Purdue sports fan and was a season ticket holder for both the Colts and the Pacers for several years.
The Rev. Jenothy Rather will conduct a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Kasting Family Charitable Fund via the Johnson County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 217, Franklin, IN 46131.
