Barbara Ann Doles
Barbara Ann (Schaefer) Doles, age 80, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.
She was born on Aug. 11, 1933, in Waukegan, Ill., to Herman and Clara (Carson) Schaefer.
She married Robert Thomas Doles on Dec. 29, 1956. He lovingly survives in Franklin.
Barbara is also survived by three children, Debra (Mark) Doles Gorbandt of Crestwood, Ky., Daniel Thomas (Sherri) Doles of Bradenton, Fla., and David Edward (Amy) Doles of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Gorbandt, Mindy (Evan) Gorbandt Tingle, Heidi Dawn Gorbandt, Jordan Thomas Doles, Matthew Edward Doles, Hannah Lynn Doles and Katelynn Joy Doles; and great-grandson, Tucker Virgil Tingle. She is also survived by one sister, Judy Schaefer of Beech Grove.
She was preceded in passing by her parents.
She was a 1951 graduate of Waukegan High School in Illinois. Barbara received her bachelor’s degree in 1956 from Franklin College and received her master’s degree from Indiana University.
Barbara was a music teacher with the Franklin Community school district, teaching music for several years at Northwood Elementary School in Franklin. Barbara also taught at Woodland School in Gages Lake, Ill.
She also was the music director for Hopewell Presbyterian Church for 43 years and was the director at First Baptist Church of Franklin for many years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklin.
She was also a member of the Delta Zeta sorority at Franklin College and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a member of the Matinee Musical and the Voices and a member of the Johnson County and Indiana retired teachers associations.
The Rev. Homer Ford will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Franklin, 201 E. Jefferson St. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North), in Franklin and from 9 until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin.
