Arthur William Bensheimer Sr., 90, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his son’s residence in Boggstown.
He was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Franklin, to Phillip Amos Bensheimer and Hazel Americus (Roberts) Bensheimer. He married Lucille E. (Hester) Bensheimer on July 9, 1948; and she preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2012.
He attended Union Township Schools. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He owned and operated Ben’s Diesel Repair in Rocklane for 15 years, retiring in 1985. Previously he was a mechanic for Kelly Chevrolet in Greenwood and Nankivell Chevrolet in Indianapolis.
He also was head mechanic several years for Sodrel Truck Lines in Indianapolis.
He attended Rocklane Christian Church, was a 50-year member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge 514, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He enjoyed pheasant and rabbit hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children, Arthur Bensheimer Jr. (Brenda) of Boggstown, Elaine D. Bensheimer of Greenwood and Jon Bensheimer (Denise) of Fishers; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, George Bensheimer of Franklin and Eugene Bensheimer of Indianapolis; and sisters, Mary Anne Gray of Toledo, Ohio, and Francis Johnson of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brothers, Robert and Kenneth Bensheimer.
The Greenwood Masonic Lodge 514 will conduct a service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. The Rev. James Cherry will conduct a service immediately following. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary. Burial with full military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
