William David Jones
William David Jones, 73, lifelong resident of Trafalgar, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his residence.
He was born July 19, 1940, in Trafalgar to Marion and Catherine E. (Hughes) Jones.
He married Earlene A. (Donnelly) Jones on Aug. 3, 1985, at the family residence in Trafalgar; she survives.
He was a 1958 graduate of Trafalgar High School and a member of Trafalgar First Christian Church.
He was a 50-year member of Trafalgar Masonic Lodge, later merging with Nineveh Masonic Lodge No. 317, and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Johnson County Historical Society and a 50-year member of the Trafalgar Volunteer Fire Department. He also had been a member of the International Right of Way Association.
He retired from Indiana Gas Co., later known as Vectren, in 1999 after 40 years of service.
He was an avid genealogy researcher for not only his family but for friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, toy tractor collecting and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Earlene A. (Donnelly) Jones of Trafalgar; children, Charles M. (Darlene) Hayden Jr. of Trafalgar, Elaine M. (Stephen) Geyer of Greenfield and Lisa A. (Cary) Davis of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Holli Hayden of Morgantown, Stephen Geyer and William Nicholas Geyer, both of Greenfield, Charles M. Hayden III, Danielle K. Hayden, Evan Davis, Rachel Davis, Jack Davis and Cal Davis, all of Indianapolis; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Norma Jones of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald W. Jones.
The Revs. Mark Matheny and Burt Brock will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trafalgar Christian Church, 300 E. Pearl St., Trafalgar. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin, where Nineveh Masonic Lodge No. 317 will conduct a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
