Jean H. (Olson) Payton, 83, Greenwood, passed into God’s hands at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care in Greenwood.
She was born Thursday, Oct. 30, 1930, in Laurium, Mich., to the late Einard and Elma (Jestila) Olson.
Jean spent her childhood participating in all outdoor activities Michigan had to offer. She had just entered college when her parents relocated to Martinsville. Jean worked at the Morgan County Public Library and had a delivery route for the Martinsville Reporter for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Heistand and husband, Jerry, of Greenwood and Jane Pierson of Mooresville; grandson, Jacob Pierson of Abilene, Texas; and brothers, Wesley Olson of Silver Spring, Md., and Paul Olson of Pebble Beach, Calif.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Payton, whom she married on Sept. 1, 1950. He died Feb. 9, 2011.
A funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Costin Funeral Chapel, 539 E. Washington St., Martinsville, with the Rev. Ed Tharpe officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
