Jean L. Jones
Jean L. (Lyon) Jones, 95, of the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Terre Haute, to James and Christina (Duncan) Lyon.
She married Hugh Earl “Bud” Jones on Aug. 1, 1942. After they got married, he immediately went into the service in World War II. He preceded her in death.
She was a 1938 graduate of Wiley High School in Terre Haute and a graduate of Indiana State University.
She was a school administrator for 35 years, and of those, 23 years were spent at James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
She loved working in her yard, gardening, flowers, crafts, crocheting, her dogs and laughing; and she cherished the color pink.
She especially enjoyed seeking and providing companionship and friendship to others.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 442 in Southport and Mount Carmel Christian Church in Trafalgar.
Survivors include her close friends, Kenneth and Linda Wendling of Nashville, Ind.; two sisters, Christina Lyon Turner of Ohio and Marion Lyon Taylor of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Alexander Lyon, John Duncan Lyon and James D. Lyon; and three sisters, Marie Lyon Lathrop, Mary Lyon Fry and Janet D. Lyon.
The Revs. Cleon Wright and Charles Stanley will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ransford Chapel at the Indiana Masonic Home, 690 State St. in Franklin. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley, Greenwood.
Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin is handling arrangements.
