Helen Maxine Houser
Helen Maxine Houser, 89, of Spencer, formerly of Worthington, died about 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in the
comfort of her daughter’s home in Spencer, where she was also cared for by her granddaughter, Rebekah Nickless.
Helen was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Palestine, Ill., to Lewis Meek and Mary Elizabeth Sutton Meek.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her dog, Shay, as well as watching birds and flowers outside her window.
She was a very proud American who loved her flag and everything it stood for.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Bruce Houser; and two daughters, Pamela Jean Smith and Susan Bonita Hill.
She is survived by her sister, Aletha Jean Goodwin of Lufkin, Texas; five children, Constance (Gary) Glorioso of Greenfield, Douglas Bruce (Linda) Houser of Merkel, Texas, Karlyn Kay (Thomas) Stephens of Trafalgar, Sherril Jo (Tony) Davis of Spencer and Everrett David (Janet) Houser of Concord, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. (CST) Wednesday at Goodwine Funeral Home, 501 W. LaMotte St., Palestine, Ill. Joshua Thomas Stephens will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. (CST) until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Palestine Cemetery.
