Arbutus (Willis) Rinehart was born Nov. 8, 1921, and died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014. She was a resident of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Rinehart; her father, William Willis; her mother, Elizabeth Willis; and her siblings, Robert, Roxie, Irene, Hector and Columbus.
She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Robert, Alvie, Rose, Clair, Beth, Marlene, Wanna, Dewitt, James and Rick Willis.
Arbutus was a 1940 graduate of Winslow High School in Pike County. She was married to Paul Rinehart for more than 50 years until his passing in 2001. In 1951, she graduated from the Burroughs Business College in Indianapolis.
Arbutus worked for the U.S. Civil Service Commission in Washington, D.C., during World War II while her husband was recovering from injuries sustained during the Battle of the Bulge. They returned to Indiana after her husband’s honorable discharge from the Army. She worked for American Mutual Liability Insurance Co. as a payroll clerk. Arbutus’ most satisfying work was assisting her husband in managing their two businesses. Together they worked as upholsters for La-Z-Boy furniture and concessionaires for Ray Skillman Buick-GMC dealership and Stout’s RV.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North in the Great Hall Chapel of Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel.
