Doyle Thomas “Doc” Miskell, 86, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin and a longtime resident of Johnson County.
Doc was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Princeton to Dan and Minnie (Martin) Miskell.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.
He married Betty Austin on Jan. 5, 1946; they were married for 67 years. She passed away Aug. 11, 2013.
He was an independent insurance agent and public accountant for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He owned and operated “Doc” Miskell Agency in Franklin.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 233 in Edinburgh and was a past commander. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge 107 in Franklin and Scottish Rite in Indianapolis.
He loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and Indiana University basketball.
He enjoyed fishing and boating and loved his dogs.
Survivors include a daughter, Mira Beltz of Franklin; and a grandson, Nicholas Beltz of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Miskell; a brother, Ernest “Bud” Miskell; and two sisters, Irene Crosby and Hazel Teepe.
A memorial and Masonic service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on his birthday, today, Feb. 7, 2014, at the Indiana Masonic Home, Kresge Chapel, 690 S. State St., Franklin. Friends and family may call from 3 p.m. until service time today at the chapel.
