Nancy Joanne Burgett, 80, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. She was a resident of Greenwood.
She was born Nov. 27, 1933 in Greenwood to the late Hubert Dale and Gladys (Lawrence) Burgett.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, Donna Marden, Jack (Heidi) Burgett, Veronica (Jim) Rosenau, Dale (Thelma) Burgett, Scott (Sally) Plummer, and Christy (Vance) Gibson; great-nieces and nephews, Valerie (Gary) Smith, Vanna (Brett) O’Neil, Leonore, D.J. and Casey Burgett, Bret and Gabby Burgett, Larry Weaver, Kris, Kyle, and Kassie Weaver, Ryan Rosenau, Kyle and Ryleigh Plummer; and great-great nieces, Madison and Reaghan Smith and Peyton Burgett.
She was preceded in death by her brother, H. Dale Burgett and her sister, Delores (James) Plummer.
Joanne was a proud graduate of the Indiana School for the Blind and Indianapolis Business School. She was a lifelong member of Rocklane Christian Church.
Joanne was a medical stenographer for St. Vincent Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1996. She enjoyed traveling the world having visited more than 30 countries, meeting life-long friends. Her favorite place was Hawaii.
A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Joanne will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery. Following the services there will be a celebration gathering at Rocklane Christian Church.
