Laura Lee ‘Susie’ Milburn Barr
Laura Lee “Susie” Milburn Barr of Indianapolis passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
Laura was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Pike County. She was the daughter of Herman and Minnie Milburn.
Like many of her generation, her life was changed by the second World War. While attending Indiana University-Bloomington, she met a returning veteran, Robert J. Barr. They were married June 28, 1946. She quit school, and he finished school, planning to be a teacher.
The Korean War intervened. Her husband was called back to the Army, and she became an Army wife. From 1950 to 1970, she moved with her growing family across the country and around the world. In 1970, Laura and her husband “retired” to Greenwood. Her job remained the same, her focus was her family, and her husband and children always came first. She was married to Robert J. Barr for 64 years.
Laura was preceded in death by a grandson, Micah Omlid; two brothers, Dana and Garth Milburn; and her husband, Robert J. Barr.
She is survived by four children, Suzann (Bill) Omlid, Robert C. (Heather) Barr, Barbara (John) Barr-Howell and Mary (Mark) McClure; seven grandchildren, Cameron Omlid, Hadley Barr, Hanna Barr, Matthew Howell, John Robert Howell, Nathan (Candace) McClure and Lauren (Ginger) McClure; a great-granddaughter, Sarah McClure; and a sister in-law, Virginia Palasini.
A private burial is planned, with a memorial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish can make memorial contributions to American Legion Post 252 or the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Indiana Chapter.
Arrangements have been entrusted to G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home.
