William “Mitch” Humphress, 50, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, surrounded by his entire family.
He was born Sept. 10, 1960, in Campbellsville, Ky., to William and Clara Humphress. His parents survive.
After graduating from Danville Community High School in 1979, he attended and graduated with honors in economics from Indiana State University in 1983. He then went on to Indiana University Law School, graduating in 1987.
Mitch most recently was a deputy prosecutor for Shelby County until this past summer, when illness prevented him from continuing. He truly loved the practice of law. He also enjoyed reading, politics, watching movies and sports.
His daughter Kristen cared for him during the last months of his life. His family also wishes to express many thanks to the nurses in the acute critical care unit of St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove for their compassionate care and support.
Survivors include his parents; three children, Kristen Humphress, Jon Humphress, Jacqueline Humphress; a sister, Sonja Weaver; two brothers, Don Humphress and Kerry Humphress; and his former spouse, Sara Warner.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, State Road 135 and Olive Branch Road, with calling there from 5 p.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby County Victims Assistance Fund in care of the funeral home.
