John Samuel Pirtle
John Samuel Pirtle, 87, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in Greenwood. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Sullivan to Edward “Ted” Pirtle and Lottie Mae (Brown) Pirtle. He married Eva Sue (Palmer) Pirtle on June 14, 1947.
John is survived by two sons, Steven Pirtle of Indianapolis and Sidney Pirtle of Franklin; grandchildren, Stevie Chinn, Phillip Pirtle, Shelby Pirtle and Jon Tyler Pirtle; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jason James and Logan Daniel.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; his wife, Eva Sue Pirtle; and a sister, Mary Seay.
He was a graduate of New Lebanon High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
John was a truck driver for John Watchel Co. and later was employed by National Tea Co. for several years, retiring in 1974. He attended Pilgrim Chapel Church.
John enjoyed tinkering with mechanical equipment and was known around Franklin as “Junkin’ Johnny.”
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle, where military honors will be conducted.
