Hazel L. Drake
Hazel L. (Strange) Drake, 84, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in Franklin. She was a resident of Whiteland.
Hazel was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Indianapolis.
She was married to Charles F. “Fred” Drake for 60 years. He preceded her is death in April 2009.
She was a kindergarten teacher in Edinburgh in the 1960s, a nursery school teacher in Whiteland with Doris Adams, a realty agent for Paul Dunlap Realty and head cashier at Madison Self Serve. From 1988 to 2003, she was owner-operator of the Little Bo-tique in Franklin.
Hazel enjoyed traveling, bluegrass music and flowers.
She attended Whiteland Missionary Baptist Church and taught Sunday school.
Survivors include two children, John Drake and Judy Parrish, both of Whiteland; and a grandchild, Bradley Drake of Whiteland.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Myrtle (Holder) Strange; a son, Thomas Joseph Drake; a sister, Marjorie Hall; a brother, Carl Strange; and a son-in-law, Jim Parrish.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
