Jerry Allen Huntsman

Jerry Allen Huntsman, 61, born June 17, 1952, in Edinburgh, died Dec. 31, 2013, in Tampa, Fla. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis H. Huntsman.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Deborah; his mother, Roseell; and his daughter, Mary Elizabeth.

Jerry graduated from Edinburgh Community High School in 1970 and moved to Florida to attend the University of South Florida. There, he met his wife Deborah. While in college Jerry began working as a surveyor. In 1993, Jerry was registered as a professional land surveyor and continued to do the work he loved until his death.

Jerry worked for the past 16 years as a surveying and mapping consultant for Florida Department of Transportation District 7 and had participated in every major right-of-way mapping project in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando counties during that time.

Jerry was a member of an elite class of surveyors and worked with many of the finest surveying firms in the Tampa Bay area over the years, including Heidt & Associates, Greenhorne & O’Mara Inc., Weidener Surveying and Mapping, Bayside Engineering Inc. and Collins Survey Consulting LLC.

Jerry was a member of Florida Surveying and Mapping Society and the American Society of Highway Engineers.

Aside from work, Jerry loved to pass the time talking and joking with friends and family, fishing, canoeing, hiking and traveling.

During his life he was fortunate enough to travel throughout the United States, Canada, England and France.

The funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 302 N. Carey St., Plant City, Fla.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the building fund of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 302 N. Carey St., Plant City, FL 33563; or to donate blood.

Jerry was a lifelong blood donor and was unable to reach his

10-gallon donor status preceding his death. There will be a blood drive in his memory on Feb. 4 at FDOT, 11201 N. Malcolm McKinley Drive, Tampa FL, 33612.
