Florence Ann Gurley
Florence Ann (Fleener) Gurley, 69, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.
By her side were her loving children and family. Ann was a mother with strong family values and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Ann was born in Franklin on Feb. 18, 1944, to the late Dale and Katherine (Zook) Fleener. She married John O. “Johnny” Gurley on June 14, 1974, in Brown County. John preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2011, after 37 devoted years of marriage.
Ann is survived by her children, Betty (husband, Jeff) Clephane of Fort Stockton, Texas, Peggy (husband, Ronnie) Lambert of Bean Blossom, Jeannie (husband, Kenney) Hildebrand of Franklin, and Mary (husband, Raymond) Harris, Bobby (wife, Dana) Fowler and Jim (wife, Carolyn) Fowler, all of Brown County. She will be remembered by her siblings, Kathy (husband, Rick) Pitcher of Brown County, Shirley (husband, David) Patterson of Franklin and Jack (wife, Carla) Brown of Brown County; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, Elesmalee Fowler; and a brother, Bruce Fleener.
Ann was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church in Trafalgar and volunteered at the Hickory Ridge Senior Center. She was a loving wife and homemaker who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Ann enjoyed sewing, crocheting and working puzzles. She was a collector of bells and wind chimes and was known for her ability to remember special dates, such as anniversary and birthdays of her family and friends.
The Rev. Jim Albertson will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Youngs Creek Cemetery near Franklin.
