Birdie E. Cassidy
Birdie E. Cassidy, 93, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Grandview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville. She was a former longtime resident of Edinburgh.
She was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Franklin, to the late Oscar L. and Laura (Watson) Johnson.
Survivors include three children, Malinda L. (Robert) Ross of Clayton, Ala., Deborah A. (Dale) Doty of Greenfield and Kenneth E. (Charlene) Cassidy of Martinsville; one sister, Edell Shockley of Trafalgar; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew E. “Hoppy” Cassidy in 1972; and two brothers, Clyde and Lloyd Johnson.
Birdie was self-employed for most of her work life as a hairdresser in the Edinburgh area.
She enjoyed traveling, reading and family time.
She served in the American Legion Auxiliary in Edinburgh and was a member of the Edinburgh Order of the Eastern Star and Edinburgh United Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending activities at the Bargersville Senior Center.
The Rev. Kevin Reed will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Monday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
