Margaret R. Sullivan
Margaret Rose “Peggy” (Thompson) Sullivan, 90, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, in Greenwood. She was a resident of Whiteland and a former resident of Preble County, Ohio.
Margaret was born May 30, 1923, in Dayton, Ohio.
She was employed with Belden Corp. in Richmond as a timekeeper, retiring in 1983 after 25 years of service.
Margaret was a strong Christian woman, who led her family and community in their faith. She had been an active member of Wares Chapel United Methodist Church in West Manchester, Ohio, since Aug. 29, 1954, where she was the secretary of membership for many years and also was president of the United Methodist Women.
She was a 50-year member of the Priddy Walters America Legion Post 665 in West Manchester, Ohio. She was a past president of the Preble County Senior Citizens.
Margaret enjoyed helping others by supporting her daughter, Nancy, with Special Olympics and fundraising for the American Heart Association.
She also enjoyed sewing, genealogy and volunteering at the library in Eaton, Ohio, for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Glenn) Haveman of Whiteland and Regina (James) Thielen of Grove City, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Timothy (Lesli) Haveman, Mark (Kim) Haveman, Jeremy Haveman, John (Emily Hester) Haveman, Rachel Haveman, Annie Rose (Scott) Thielen-Besst and Mitchell (Tricia) Thielen; and five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Colin, Bethanie, Tytus and Abigail Rose Haveman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Herman Sullivan; a daughter, Nancy Gail Sullivan; a sister, Dorothy Hofacker; and her parents, Bert L. and Nellie L. (Giblin) Thompson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whiteland United Methodist Church, 309 Main St. Visitation will be from noon until service time Saturday at the church. An additional service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wares Chapel United Methodist Church, 1060 Foos Road, West Manchester, Ohio, with visitation there from 12:30 p.m. until service time Sunday. Burial will be at Wares Chapel Cemetery in West Manchester.
