Dorothy Anne Buergler, 88, Greenwood, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013.
She was born in San Francisco on Sept. 4, 1925, to Wilfred Samuel Gibson and Mary Cecelia Twyford Gibson.
Dorothy worked as a registered nurse both in San Francisco and at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at University Heights Hospital and served on the Chrysanthemum Ball committee at St. Francis Hospital.
Dorothy was an avid tennis player and swimmer, loved to travel and was a wonderful cook.
She married Joseph C. Buergler on Aug. 21, 1948, in San Francisco. He survives.
Dorothy also is survived by her children, David Buergler (Bee), Paul Buergler (Julie Buergler), Carol Sandefer, Alaine Melfi (Ralph), Dianne Cutri (Frank), Barbara Davis (Larry) and Laurie Gates (Steve); 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian St., where she was a member. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., Indianapolis, where prayers will be said at 1 p.m. Monday prior to Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
