Vernon D. Schmidt

Vernon D. Schmidt, 56, of Connersville, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013.

Vernon was born in Indianapolis on April 18, 1957, the son of Myrtle Carol (Smith) McGuire and Tim McGuire.

Vernon worked at White Castle; opened his own service company, Schmidt and Sons; continued working in the appliance industry with H.H. Gregg, Maytag and Benner Mechanical; and most recently was the operations manager at Clark Appliance in Indianapolis.

Vernon authored a New York Times best-seller, “The Appliance Handbook for Women.”

Besides being a loving devoted family man, Vernon enjoyed tailgating, attending Colts games, fishing, hunting and being “on call” for his family and friends.

Vernon was a Junior Deacon with Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 58. He was an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife, L. Kathy Bridenhager Schmidt; his mother, Myrtle McGuire; his father, Tim McGuire; sons, Jesse (Amanda) Schmidt and Vernon (Shannon) Schmidt; daughters, April Mueller, Tamika (Brad) Larrieu, Angel (Clyde) McPeak and Melissa (Rob) Thomas; grandchildren, Joseph, Kayla, James, Bailey, Dalton, Blake, Aaron, Andrew, Seth, Trinity, McKinley, Grant, Rhys and Lola; sisters, Marcy (Steve) Calvin, Laura (Stan) Bryan, Moneta (Mike) Curry and Cathy (Joe) Fitzgerald; stepbrothers, Shawn and Matt McGuire; sisters-in-law, Paulette (Dic) Worcester, Mary (Jack) Haberthier, Laura (Tim) Daniel and Margaret (Kevin) Jackson; mother-in-law, Lillian F. Bridenhager; stepchildren, Nicole (Alex) Harcourt, Doug (Megan) Whiting, Christina (Scott) Winzenread and Brittany (Michael) Niland; and stepgrandchildren, Ethan, Caden and Landon.

A funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W. U.S. 52, Fountaintown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
