Martha Helen Holstein Shank
Martha Helen Holstein Shank died peacefully Nov. 18, 2013. She was a resident of Matteson, Ill.
She was born in Franklin on Aug. 27, 1928.
She was a resident of Matteson for the last 50 years and worked as a bookkeeper in the accounting department at Homewood-Flossmoor High School until her retirement in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph in 1988; grandson, Lee; and great-grandson, Zachary.
She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend, and was known to all as Mamaw, who generously opened her heart and home to anyone in need.
She is survived by six children, Joel (Darlene), Lynnley (John) Wilson, Donald (Deborah), Bradley (Mary), Jeffrey (Suzanne) and Peter (Janice); 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her loving sister, Laura Jean Hessong; a niece, Deborah; a nephew, Keith; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
There will be an informal memorial celebration to honor Martha’s life and incredible spirit from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Church of the Nazarene, 699 Eighth/205th St., Chicago Heights, Ill. Enter from the westside entrance.
