Gretchen Toolan of St. Augustine, Fla., a kind, thoughtful and loving daughter, wife, mother and friend, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013.
Gretchen was born on Sept. 5, 1929, in Washington, D.C., a devoted daughter to Ruth Campbell Edwards, and grew up in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Carbondale, Pa.
Gretchen’s husband of more than 64 years, Charles, preceded her in death.
Her loving children, Greg Toolan, Debra Toolan and Susan Baker, and her brother, Ronald Edwards of Serverna Park, Md., survive her.
Gretchen worked for several years at Franklin College while living in Franklin.
Gretchen had a great sense of humor and loved comedy shows, sports of any kind, shopping, finding the “best” fruit and vegetables for her family at neighborhood markets, spending the evening with a glass of wine, good food and good friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Good Shepherd Chapel, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org, Water Aid America at www.wateraid.org or Heifer International at www.heifer.org/gift.
