Pauline M. “Polly” Ashby, 87, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Evansville and Orlando, Fla.
She was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Evansville, to the late Paul and Margaret (Joest) Newhouse.
She married Roger Ashby Jr. on Oct. 4, 1947; and he survives.
She also is survived by three children, James B. (Ellen) Ashby, R. Keith (Mary) Ashby and Deb St. Pierre; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerald Newhouse.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and David Newhouse.
Polly was a registered nurse. She received her nursing training during World War II through the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She and her husband, Roger, owned and operated the Ashby-Rausher Insurance Agency in Evansville until they retired to Florida.
She was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile, where she served as queen in 1962 in Evansville. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Red Hat Society. One of her favorite pastimes was taking her grandchildren to Disney World.
The Rev. Marion W. Church will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children, 510 N. New Jersey St., Indianapolis, IN 46204; and/or Ronald McDonald House, 435 Limestone St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
