Betty Jean Burkhart
Betty Jean (Smithey) Burkhart, 81, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in Greenwood. She was a resident of Greenwood.
Betty was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Bargersville, to Arvil and Mary (Pollard) Smithey.
Betty married Melvin Burkhart on July 9, 1950; they were married for 63 years.
She was employed with Western Electric for 16½ years in the ringer assembly area.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and being outdoors. She loved spending time with her family and her dog, Nikki.
She was a lifelong member of Honey Creek United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Burkhart of Greenwood; two children, Karen Burkhart of Greenwood and Rita (Jerry) Harting of Franklin; sister, Kay (Dewey) Findley of Franklin; and brother, William (Beverly) Smithey of Greenwood.
Her husband, Melvin Burkhart of Greenwood, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvil and Mary Smithey.
The Rev. Brad Miller will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday at Honey Creek United Methodist Church, 2722 S. Honey Creek Road, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
