Jessie Mae Lawson Johnson
Jessie Mae Lawson Johnson, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus. She was a resident of Columbus.
She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Columbus to the late William S. Ott and Tressa J. Beeker Ott.
Jessie retired from Cummins Engine Co. and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was made a Kentucky Colonel in 2001 for having served on the 15th District PTSA.
Jessie loved her dogs, both named Lilly, playing games, listening to gospel music and traveling. She also loved spending time with her family and attending family gatherings.
Survivors include three children, Michael S. (Edna) Lawson of Franklin, Carlotta (Gary) Mitchell of Louisville, Ky., and Sarah Janell Lawson of Columbus; siblings, Oram Lee Ott and Tressa Jane Hoffman, both of Columbus, and Carolyn Nell Farris of Sallisaw, Okla; grandchildren, Steven (Kayla) Mitchell, Matthew Fields, Mary Lucas and Shawn Atwood; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James N. Lawson, and her second husband, Larry L. Johnson; her parents, William S. and Tressa J. Beeker Ott; and siblings, Robert and John Ott and Sarah Elizabeth Carter.
The Rev. Richard Yeaton will officiate a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St., Columbus. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
Memorials may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
