Lenard Jack Hardin
Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at his home in Franklin.
Jack was born Sept. 23, 1923, in LaPorte, to John and Bertha (Gotsalig) Hardin. He was married
Jan. 2, 1946, to Josephine Blair Hardin.
He is survived by his wife, Joye; children, Sonia J. Leerkamp and John S. (Danita) Hardin; six grandchildren, Alan (Deborah), Chris (Gennie) and Brittany Leerkamp, Joellen (Aaron) Turvey, Deanna (Jeff) Timpe and Jayna (Phil) Rodarte; and seven great-grandchildren, Kyla and Jillian Turvey, Gabriella, Ethan, Spencer and Wyatt Timpe, and Samuelle Leerkamp.
He was preceded in death by two children, two brothers, six sisters.
Mr. Hardin served in the U.S. Navy as an aviator in World War II and graduated from Tri-State College in Angola, with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
He worked as a manufacturing engineer manager for Arvin Industries for 27 years, retiring in 1987. He was a consulting engineer following retirement.
Jack was an avid golfer, enjoying the links with his wife, Joye, at Hillview Country Club whenever the weather permitted. He also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and yard work, and using his carpentry skills, with special attention to making bluebird houses and distributing them to family, friends and throughout the community.
A memorial service in thanksgiving for a life well lived will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 29 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin, with light refreshments to be served afterward.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin, IN 46131.
