Jean Gowen Walden
 

Jean Gowen Walden, 78, transitioned to her eternal home, Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Springvale, Maine, on April 24, 1935, she was the daughter of Fred G. Sr. and Glenna Hobbs Gowen.

Jean graduated from Sanford High School in Sanford, Maine and attended Gordon College in Boston, now in Wenham, Mass., where she met Robert L. Walden Sr., whom she married on June 7, 1955.

Jean was a devoted wife and mother.

She spent her life in ministry alongside her husband, the Rev. Robert L. Walden. They served together in American Baptist churches in Haverhill, Mass.; Oswego, N.Y.; Madison, Maine; Camden, Maine; and Auburn, Maine.

Jean lived in Greenwood since 2000 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood.

Jean is predeceased by her parents, Fred G. Gowen and Glenna Hobbs Gowen. She is also predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Robert L. Walden.

She is survived by her children, Katherine W. Morrow and her husband, Gordon, of Greenwood, Robert L. Walden Jr. and his wife, Carrie, of Warren, Maine, and Wendy J. Walden of Greenwood; three beloved granddaughters, Melissa Soiett, the Rev. Heather Henson and Heidi Williams; four beloved great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Gowen Jr. and his wife, MaryLou, of Scarborough, Maine; a sister, Deborah Gowen of Leesburg, Fla.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services celebrating Jean’s life will be held at Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St. in Springvale, Maine. Jean’s granddaughter, the Rev. Heather Henson, will officiate the service. Burial will be at Springvale Riverside Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Jean’s name to the mission funds at either First Baptist Church of Greenwood, 99 Main St., Greenwood, IN 46142; or Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court St., Auburn, ME 04210.
