John Herman Pittman
John Herman Pittman, 85, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2013.
John was born in Indianapolis and was a 1946 graduate of Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis. He graduated from Purdue University, Indianapolis campus, with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He was employed as a mechanical engineer and engineering supervisor for Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors Corp., Indianapolis, for 41 years. He later worked for several years at Maco Corp. as an engineering consultant.
He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and longtime season-ticket holder.
His greatest joy was his family, and he was a loyal spectator at their many sporting events, performances and other activities.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy (O’Neill) Pittman; children, Marla (Dave) Lutgring, John (Joy) Pittman and Jennifer Pittman; grandchildren, Megan, Matt, Mallary, Nicholas and Krista; and great-grandchildren, Sienna and Eliana.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Alta Lay Pittman; sisters, Mary Thompson and Dorothy Deweese; and brother, William Edward “Bill” Pittman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
