Alice Grace Davenport

Alice Grace Davenport, 83, passed away to be with the Lord on Oct. 26, 2013, in Franklin. She was a longtime resident of Franklin.

Alice was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Weehawken, N.J., to August and Alice (Dyer) Yonghaus.

She married Ben Davenport on June 14, 1952. He lovingly survives Alice.

Alice also is survived by her son Bryan, his wife Alicia, and their sons Rick and Jared.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice, and by her father, August.

Alice graduated from Butler High School in New Jersey. She received her bachelor’s degree from Susquehanna University and went on to receive a master’s degree in family and marital counseling cum laude from Christian Theological Seminary.

Throughout her life, she worked as a personnel/human resources manager. She owned and operated a family counseling business called Pathways Counseling. She helped many people through Pathways Counseling, which she operated as a Christian ministry. She retired from Pathways Counseling in 2000.

Alice was a member of Southport Presbyterian Church and was a founder of Center Grove Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. At the time of her death, she was an active member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church.

Among her many volunteer activities she was the puppeteer for the “Time for Timothy” television show, where she performed as the character Timothy. The show was a Christian-based TV production geared to children. The show was frequently used in hospitals to encourage seriously ill children. At Hopewell, Alice was involved with the Kings’ Daughter Circle and the Fortnightly Club.

She was a member of Hillview Country Club, Economic Club of Indiana and the Mental Health Counselors Association.

A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 548 W. County Road 100N, Franklin. The Revs. Quentin Small and Brad Moger will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Clinic Foundation, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905; and/or to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 548 W. County Road 100N, Franklin, IN 46131.

Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is handling arrangements.
