William Adair Smith
William Adair Smith, 89, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. He was a resident of Greenwood.
Bill was born Aug. 21, 1924, to the late Dane and Lucy Smith in Hart County, Ky. He married Elsie May Branstetter on Christmas Eve 1943. He was a devoted husband to Elsie for 69 years. He was by her side in sickness and in health before she passed away on Feb. 14, 2013.
Bill retired from Span-Deck of Indiana, where he was a plant superintendent. In his younger years, he enjoyed owning and working on Corvettes. He and Elsie also enjoyed collecting antiques. Bill was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by four children, Ken (Lorraine) Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Tom (Marsha) Smith of Richmond, Va., Jim Smith of Indianapolis and Mary Lou (Marv) Habicht of Greenwood; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with another due in March.
He also was preceded in passing by two grandsons, Todd Smith in 1987 and Nicolas Habicht in 2004.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
